RED BELL PEPPER
Silly Food Fact
Did you know that Bell Peppers are actually a fruit and not a vegetable? They also come from the same plant. As a bell pepper matures, it turns from green to red. That’s why the red ones are sweeter!
Why Our Bodies Love It
Studies have shown that red bell peppers have significantly higher levels of nutrients than green bell peppers. Red bell peppers contain lycopene, which is a carotene that help protect against cancer and heart disease.
Care and Picking
To pick a good red bell pepper, make sure its skin is firm without any wrinkles, the stem is green and it feels heavy for its size. Avoid any bell peppers that have black spots. Red bell peppers store best when placed in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
